Wazzup people. How are you doing today? Before i say anything else let me introduce you to our very esteemed guest and an erudite man The Prof Varshney. Now why you ask me did i ever get to do a review of a Prof who also happens to be a contributing editor to the Indian express and various other media outlets? Well thats why. He writes opinion pieces which may or may not influence people. I am posting his CV of 11 pages and his web profile here for your reference. The only CV longer than this would be of Genghis Khan or our PM. So many achievements you see.https://research.brown.edu/pdf/1231360402.pdf?nocache=520654293https://research.brown.edu/research/profile.php?alias=Ashutosh_Varshne...

Once in a while a good dose of fiction always is refreshing. But these days every other title sounds like it is the next best controversy, the best seller, unputdownable, unbelievable blah blah.So how do one choose what book to pick up. If some friend or a blog that you read recommends it you pick it up. You may stumble on to it by mistake. Now the best way to stumble on to a good book for me at-least is in a book shop. I found this book waiting on a lazy Saturday afternoon. I picked it up and the hours spent were worth it.The story in a short and sweet nutshell. The hero Nate is a botanist working in the Amazonian forest along with the Tribal Indians. His family has been involved with ...

Recently i became a member in a cartoon library. I should rather call it as a manna from heaven. It really worked out cheap. In their website i was browsing through their list in Non-fiction section, really wondering how good can a non-fiction graphics novel be?The choice fell to the book called as Logicomix. Now what the hell does that title mean anyway? Googled it and found out it was quite interesting. I generally tend to avoid taking reviews on face value. Picked up the book. The book is about the foundational quest in mathematics. What is foundational quest you ask? As per my understanding the quest is for a language of mathematics. A uniform language of logic with strong foundations. ...

My first encounter with Scandinavian fiction was through Stieg Larsson. His Millenium trilogy was awesome. You may call it their climate or whatever but there is a certain flavor to what they write. Their crime fiction has attained a level where we can safely say that it has its own geographical indicator.I picked this book up having the same faith in the flavor  My faith has been reinforced. The author Jussi Alder Olsen has written couple of books out of which 3 have been translated to English if i am not wrong. The book mercy is the first in the series which deals with Department Q. Our main character deputy detective superintendent Carl Morck and his assistant Assad the immigrant...

We all have heard of our Governors haven't we. But what do they actually do? I tried doing a little research and was pretty much convinced that we actually don't need these home boys. They occupy so much of prime real estate, maintenance and upkeep of these heritage buildings, the support staff, their salaries, the emoluments for the Guvs and their allowances. He is paid a salary of 1.1 Lac/month. Now before you start let us be clear on the followingA. He gets to stay in a palace with no rent.B. All household expenses taken care of at your and my expense.C. Travel like the dude. Infact M.K. Narayan bought a BMW for cruising. Well he has to comfortable right. He cant travel like...

After reading this book, i can truly say that i have found my Guru Dronacharya. Throughout the reading of the book it was almost as if, Leonard sir was near me prodding me with his words to understand the world in a much simpler and better manner.Synopsis: This book is all about a statement by Stephen Hawkings that once any information/thing enters a black hole it lost for ever. Leonard was furious as to how is it possible and works proves that he is right and not that the other person is wrong!!!!Now before you start asking how the hell does that make a difference, let me state a fundamental fact. Energy/information can neither be created nor destroyed. So is Stephen was right then the whol...

Mythological serials are something which i have never watched post Ramayana and Mahabharata. These 2 serials were part of my life in my childhood and not something which i really had a choice. The whole of India watched it for godsake. After these 2, DD was not too popular and we didn't have a cable TV for me to study well. As i grew up mythology was something i really didn't care about especially in the TV. Average actors, over exaggeration, typical music and drag the hell out of each scene. At-least that's what i thought it would be. Some years passed and recently heard something good about this serial called Devon ke Dev Mahadev. I as usual casually let go thinking it to ...

Chocolates: The sweet dark brown things that we just take it for granted. I took it for granted and thought that they grow on trees. Well they start their lives in a plant for sure. But how they end up in a colorful package close to our mouth is what this book is all about. One question that you can ask is why should i read about chocolate that too its 250 year old history? The answer would be its not only about chocolate. Its about how and why they were successful and what we can learn about it all. How one can be rich and not be petty and make others lives better. Few things that are interesting and not common are A. Most of the chocolate companies started as cocoa drink producers. B. A...
